
When I appeared on Virginia public television in 1994 to discuss my nature-friendly gardening, the interviewer asked if I were “a fanatic”. Only recently has my way of gardening become seen as necessity rather than kookiness. Unfortunately, much erroneous information exists in the public realm. Writing in defense of nature—based upon my decades of documenting, and gardening within, the natural world—I provide people with the empirical knowledge they need to care properly for the environment.
